Yard Drawings

An early work series which paved the way for a number of problematics I still enjoy grappling with.

Contrasts & contradictions (stark or otherwise)

Ideals, formal elements
The suggestive shape, repeated form and related shadows,
The tentative/or precarious looser version of the solid form.

Other tensions at play: the real and the ideal, universal and modernist/messiness and everyday

Context of the space – due to not having a studio at the time, the ‘yard’ was my test space.

The prevalence of being site specific.

It looks simultaneously inwards and outwards. Inwards because of its concentration on itself as object, outwards because of its engagement and dialogue with the space in which it features.
